Medical Play

Definition - What does Medical Play mean?

Medical play is a type of role-playing scenario where sexual partners take on the roles of medical professionals and, in most cases, their patients. Typically medical play involves a dominant partner, who plays the role of a medical professional treating their submissive patient. Medical play may be an aspect of medical fetishism or simply a way for a couple to spice up their sex life.

Most of us played doctors and nurses as a kid, but for some of us, that childhood game develops into an adult sexual fantasy. But with uniforms, roles and tools to consider, here is Sugarkiss’s guide to making medical play fun, kinky and safe. Our surgery is open for business!

Ever accidentally get turned on at the doctor's surgery? We know we have. Well, maybe you haven't, but like the idea of it. Plenty of people share a fantasy for medical play. So many, in fact, that there are entire groups and classes dedicated to this subject.

Medical play often involves an intimate examination, wherein the dominant partner performs quasi-medical procedures on the submissive patient. The patient is often restrained, gagged, stripped naked, or dressed in a humiliating costume.

Slipping into a sexy nurse outfit might sound a little too cliché or silly for real life. But wearing a costume is a great way to break free from accepted standards of behavior, which is why they can be integral to taking on the role of a devious doctor or naughty patient.

The examination may involve handling of the genitals and breasts, or the insertion of objects into various orifices. The objects may be heated or frozen to reproduce the sensations experienced during a real medical exam. Strap-on play is a common part of this type of examination. Medical sex toys like Wartenberg wheels and speculums may enhance the examination. The examination may culminate with an enema or the masturbation of the submissive patient. In more extreme cases, medical play may involve the acting out of an anesthesia fetish, piercing, skin stapling, or the insertion of urethral sounds.

Medical play may appeal to submissive partners, as it picks up on the vulnerability they feel when they're sick or hurt, bringing it into the bedroom. During medical play, submissive partners might also endure tests which may be painful or humiliating, while trusting that their doctor knows best. Dominant partners also enjoy medical play because it puts them in control of their patient's pleasure, and in some cases, their pain.

Pick your medical play roles

Doctors, nurses, patients... these are all surface roles. Adding a Dom/sub or switch dynamic to your medical play scene will provide more depth to these basic relationships, and allow further room for playing.

While the patient/doctor scenario is one of the most common in medical play, it is not the only option. Sometimes medical play will also experiment with steamy relationships between doctors and nurses, or a naughty patient taking advantage of a naïve candy-striper.
